St. John the Baptist Church was founded in
the summer of 1917 by Father John Lach as a mission of SS. Cyril &
Methodius Church in Windber, PA. After the original building burned
down on December 25, 1920, the current building was built in the
years 1921 and 1922. St. John the Baptist was dedicated by Bishop
McCort on July 3, 1927. The church had a parochial school from 1943
to 1952, which was run by four Dominican Sisters and had 122
students. In 1998, St. John the Baptist Church was combined with
Sacred Heart of Jesus Church to form Our Lady Queen of Angels
Church. |
